At least 194 people have been killed as flooding and mudslides have overtaken the southern and western areas of Sri Lanka since Friday. Nearly 100 people are still missing, and more than 80,000 people remain in relief camps as of Tuesday.

Many of the more than 100,000 evacuees had begun to return home on Tuesday, starting the strenuous job of cleaning up after the disaster as waters recede.

Rescue teams aided by Indian Navy divers and doctors continue to search for injured, tending to victims in makeshift tents and shelters. 

This weekend's flooding is reported as the worst in 14 years, according to CNN. Mudslides have become common during Sri Lanka's summer monsoons due to deforestation. Last year, a landslide killed more than 100 people in the Indian Ocean island nation.
