Winter Storm Fortis produced snow totals of half a foot or more across seven states: Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont. The heavy snow and strong winds left thousands without power, and killed one in a vehicle accident.

More than 150 businesses, schools and government offices saw cancellations, delays or closings throughout Maine. 100,000 people in the state were left without power, and 27 inches of snow were measured in Naples, Maine on Friday. 

In Cornwall, Vermont, a 69-year-old man was killed when his car slid off a snow-covered road into a tree. Insterstate closures were reported throughout the state on Thursday due to heavy snow. 

The storm began its departure from the Northeast on Friday, but lake-effect snow is expected to continue throughth the Great Lakes area.
