Cities with the Worst Drivers in America 2014

Allstate has released its annual list of the best and worst drivers in America, and there's bad news for those who commute in Massachusetts.

Three of the four cities that were ranked the worst in the nation are in the Bay State, according to the insurance company's findings. Included in the study's criteria was weather's impact on each city's drivers, since poor conditions can make driving more hazardous. AOL reports this is the second consecutive year that the city with the most dangerous drivers hails from Worcester. Its residents average a car accident every 4.3 years and are nearly 135 percent more likely to get in a wreck than the average American.

"Weather is frequently a headache for Massachusetts drivers. Wind-driven nor'easters, producing snowfall rates of several inches per hour, can strand vehicles, even on well-traveled interstates," said weather.com senior meteorologist Jon Erdman. "Western and central parts of the state are more susceptible to freezing rain and sleet, as well. Finally, heavy downpours anytime of year can trigger nuisance flash-flooding in urban areas."

Claims Journal used Allstate's precipitation data to filter the list for the safest cities to drive in rain and snow. Topping their list was Brownsville, Texas; Fort Collins, Colorado; Kansas City, Kansas; Huntsville, Alabama; and Boise, Idaho.
