Deadly flooding has swamped towns small and large in the Midwest and South over the past week, and in some areas, the floodwaters have barely started to recede.

The flooding has already claimed at least six lives; deaths have been confirmed in Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois and Oklahoma.

Floodwaters have shut down countless roads in the South and Midwest and stranded myriad cars in high water since last Monday. Crews in boats have been dispatched to rescue residents from flooded homes, and hundreds have been evacuated as houses are threatened by the rising water.

The flooding reached as far north as Michigan's Lower Peninsula, where roads were closed for days, and water rescues were reported as far south as Texas.
