Heavy rains in Arizona flooded roadways in some low-lying areas Thursday, leading firefighters to rescue a man whose van got stuck in high waters.

Heavy rain spawned by the remnants of former Hurricane Simon produced flash flooding in southern and central Arizona on Thursday.

As much as 2.17 inches of rain fell in Apache Junction,l ocated 35 miles east of Phoenix. The heavy rains flooded roadways in some low-lying area. Firefighters to rescue a man whose van got stuck in high waters on a particularly low area of a street.

Helicopter news video shows firefighters helping him climb from his van into a fire truck amid rushing water. Other footage shows intersections and parts of neighborhood roads underwater.

Storm runoff also briefly closed one lane on the U.S. 60 freeway in the same area.
