At least six people have died and three others remain missing in Texas after a severe storm system fired up in the Plains over the past week, bringing heavy rain and severe flooding.

The floods have brought some southeastern Texas rivers up to levels near record stage, and some are expected to crest well above previous records. Sections of towns have been evacuated from rising waters, and animals have been herded away from the floods.
