Several mudslides were reported south of Carson City, Nevada, on Monday, shutting down a highway near the state's border with California.

Officials reported the mudslides near Topaz Lodge along U.S. 395 Monday evening, not far from the Slinkard Fire burn scar, which destroyed more than 8,000 acres last September, according to KRNV-TV. Mud covered both directions of the highway and chased about 200 people to the second floor of the Topaz Lodge after mud and floodwaters entered the lower level, the report added.

East Fork Fire Protection District spokespeople told KRNV that four hotel rooms were damaged, but no injuries were reported.

An estimated two dozen cars were trapped by the mudflows, according to the Record-Courier, but those vehicles were not in danger of being washed away. Many residents sheltered in place after the mudslides were reported, but no homes were damaged in the area, the report added.

Following the mudslides, a plow and loader truck were sent to Douglas County to begin cleanup, KOLO-TV reported. The mud, which was some 4 feet deep, stretched 100 feet across the highway, the California Department of Transportation said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said it does not have an estimate for when the highway might reopen.
