Guatemala's Volcan de Fuego erupted Sunday, killing at least 75 people. The eruption was the deadliest volcanic eruption on the planet in more than seven years.

As rescuers work to search for nearly 200 missing people, they're finding and rescuing pets as well. Recent photos show these heroes carrying dogs, chickens and even a monkey away from the ash-buried areas near the volcano.

Ignacio Lopez Benitez returned to rescue his dog, Brava, left behind in his volcano-struck village near El Rodeo. Lopez found the dog alive. The man told Emisoras Unidas in a video that his sister is still missing.

According to Pet Rescue Report, Benitez said, "I rescued some clothing... and my dog who is my whole soul."

In a photo released by the AP, volunteer firefighter Sergio Vazquez can be seen carying a black and white dog rescued from a home where four people were killed by the eruption. Vazquez said that the dog's name is Rambo.

Julio Sanchez, spokesman for CONRED, Guatemala's National Coordination for Disaster Reduction, told the AP that many dogs and cats had been rescued from devastated areas, some burned and blinded from volcanic ash and gases.

"Animals have a different sort of resistance... and different behavior when it comes to finding refuge," Sanchez said.

Bryan Rivera cries after looking at the remains of his house, after his family went missing during the Volcan de Fuego or "Volcano of Fire" eruption, in San Miguel Los Lotes, Guatemala, Thursday, June 7, 2018. Guatemala's national disaster agency suspended search and rescue efforts at the zone devastated by the eruption, saying climatic conditions and still-hot volcanic material makes it dangerous for the rescuers.
