The storm first hit northern California Thursday, causing injuries, widespread power outages, flooded roads and major disruptions to public transit. Countless roads flooded and were shut down because of the heavy rainfall.

The Weather Channel’s partner Duracell is on location in San Francisco, where PG & E reported more than 200,000 Bay Area residents lost power during the storm. Spokesperson Shane Grady tells The Weather Channel’s Chris Warren how the trucks work. And hopes to be of service to those left in the dark.

“Duracell PowerForward is a program designed to provide free Duracell batteries, Wi-Fi, computer access and mobile charging to those communities affected by natural disasters,” Grady said.

The company deploys custom trucks to areas most affected by disaster, to provide relief to those without power. The fleet includes five vehicles stationed in four hubs: St. Louis, New Orleans, San Francisco and Manchester, N.H.

Since 2011, the program has been deployed to 16 disaster locations, distributing more than 350,000 batteries, charging about 7,000 devices and proving computer access to at least 5,000 people.

San Francisco Bay Area residents can follow the Power Forward truck’s whereabouts on Twitter @Duracell.
