You might have heard that counting the seconds after thunder can tell you how close a storm is. That’s not exactly true, but there is a way to judge that distance. It requires both seeing lightning and hearing thunder, and some quick calculations between the two. But remember, if you can hear thunder you’re already in danger of being struck by lightning and should seek shelter inside.
