A storm system produced more than two dozen tornadoes from the Plains into the Southeast this weekend, leaving behind destruction, injuring at least thirty and killing one.

In southeast Georgia, five people were injured, four of which were at Kings Bay Naval Base as a tornado struck on Sunday. The storm damaged a pier facility, knocked down utility poles and flipped vehicles. Two sailors were injured when they were thrown from a patrol boat, and two fishermen sustained minor injuries on a nearby pier, base officials reported.

On Saturday evening, more than 100 homes were damaged and 25 people were injured when a tornado barrelled through Taylorville, Illinois.

Taylorville Assistant Fire Chief Andy Goodall said that the tornado's path was almost directly through town, and that the storm tore roofs off of homes, including his own.

"I know we had probably 12 or 15 houses, at least, where people were trapped," he said in an interview with the Breeze Courier on Saturday night.

One person was killed in a motel as an EF1 tornado passed through Aurora, Missouri. Several destructive tornadoes were confirmed in Oklahoma and throughout Missouri.
