Tornadoes Flatten Buildings in Midwest, South (PHOTOS)

At least 70 homes and businesses were damaged Thursday evening when a tornado touched down in Vernon, Michigan. Much of the town remains without power on Friday.

A line of severe storms brought damaging winds, flooding rains and tornadoes across the Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley and the South Thursday.

Vernon's neighboring towns of Durand and Genesee Township saw damaging winds from the tornado as well.

Several towns in Alabama reported damage, including Allgood, Holly Pond and White City. Tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service in Blount, Lamar and Cullman, Alabama.

A confirmed tornado passed closely to the National Weather Service office in Paducah, Kentucky, Thursday morning. Soon after, the same tornado tore the roof off of Mount Zion Baptist Church in West Paducah. Kentucky State Police reported one non-life-threatening injury due to the storm.

A possible tornado also struck Lowell, Indiana, about 40 miles southeast of Chicago.
