How to Help Those Devastated by Pilger, Nebraska, Tornadoes

The American Red Cross is in Pilger, Nebraska, to help residents who experienced devastating losses when twin tornadoes hit Monday afternoon.

Residents can register or search the safe and well listings at www.redcross.org/find-help. The public can help by donating at www.redcross.org/ne/omaha.

The Red Cross set up at shelter at Wisner-Pilger High School in Wisner for those affected by the storms, Tina Labellarte, Nebraska Southwest Iowa region executive for the Red Cross, told omaha.com.

"I don't expect a big population at the shelter, but we are there for the people who need it," she said, noting that people generally stay with family and friends.

Other Red Cross shelters are on standby, waiting for requests from emergency management to open if needed, Labellarte said.
