Severe weather swept into the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley Wednesday, bringing tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.

Several tornadoes were spotted in northeastern Ohio, near Akron. The University of Akron campus was ordered to take shelter Wednesday afternoon, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The National Weather Service confirmed four tornadoes hit the state on Wednesday night. All four twisters were given an EF0 rating.

WAKR radio reports significant damage to at least one home in Stow, which is about 8 miles northeast of Akron. The station says several homes near Berwin and Bunker Lane also had minor damage.

Another tornado was reported in Hiram, but a spokesperson from the Hiram Police Department said there were no injuries and only a few reports of downed trees.

The University of Akron canceled evening classes, and Wednesday night's Major League Baseball game between the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins was also called off.

In Michigan, Detroit Public Schools dismissed two hours early ahead of the storms on Wednesday.

Indiana also experienced problems from the storm system, as rainfall picked up in intensity Wednesday night. On the campus of Ball State University, torrential downpours led to reports of flooding.

The severe weather is expected to move into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Thursday. Heavy rain and high winds will be the main threat. You can get the latest forecast from the weather.com severe tracker.
