A massive wildfire in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula has grown to more than 300,000 square acres, but light rain Thursday allowed firefighters to go on the offensive.

The Funny River Fire remained 46 percent contained as of late Thursday, according to the Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team.

Weather conditions should continue to provide relief in the coming days, according to weather.com meteorologist Jon Erdman.

"Lighter rain may return later in the weekend," said Erdman.
