The fire was spotted just after 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near the Hollywood Reservoir and burned 18 acres in just four hours' time. The blaze was 50 percent contained by the evening, but slowdowns were reported on the nearby U.S. 101 freeway during rush hour as drivers drove through smoke and attempted to get a glimpse of the fire.

City fire helicopters were using the nearby reservoir to fill up and drop water on the blaze. They along with 200 firefighters made quick progress in stopping the worst of the flames.

Fire officials say no homes were in serious danger, but there were voluntary evacuation orders issued for a few residents along Holly Drive, the Los Angeles Times reported. Brush clearance is excellent around most of the homes and apartment buildings in the area, however, and winds were not especially strong.
