The Day The Temperature Rose 103 Degrees

Following Winter Storm Phyllis, a second system is set to bring snow from the West to the Plains, Midwest and parts of the Northeast into early this week that, while not a major snowstorm, could lead to slippery travel.

Unlike Winter Storm Oaklee last week, cold air will be more muted in locations east of the Rockies.

This means any snow or ice will remain farther north in the Plains, Midwest and Northeast.

A strong jet stream plunged southward into the West. Two disturbances in this jet stream plunge pivoted into the central U.S., both contributing lift in the atmosphere for each round of snow.

Modest slushy accumulations of snowfall are likely from eastern Iowa to the southern Great Lakes, northern and western upstate New York and northern New England.

This snow could make for slushy commutes in the morning and afternoon in parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes, potentially including Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit. Accumulations should be light in most areas.

Some lingering snow is possible into Tuesday in upstate New York and northern New England.
