This Is What a Whiteout Looks Like and It’s Scary

New video shows the nightmare conditions snow brought to part of Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon.

A thin, quick-moving lake-effect snow band shifted into Clarion County, Pennsylvania, around 1:30 p.m. ET.

On radar (left) it almost looks harmless.

While this video was shot on what appears to be a two-lane road, this is the same county where whiteout conditions were blamed for a deadly 18-vehicle wreck along Interstate-80 Wednesday. Police were forced to shut down a stretch of the heavily-traveled interstate until late last night in order to clear the accident.

Frightening whiteout conditions like this are possible with more lake-effect snow in the forecast for the region through Friday, particularly around the snow belt east of Lake Erie.
