Days of heavy snow have taken their toll on travel in the Great Lakes region, as road closures and school cancelations were announced again Thursday.

Parts of Ohio received nearly a foot of new snow from this week's lake-effect snows, as well as a clipper that moved through the area Tuesday. As a result, many Cleveland-area schools were canceled Thursday. WKYC.com has a complete list of closures on their website.

While some areas of northern Pennsylvania got more than a foot of new snow from this week's winter weather, parts of the Pittsburgh area saw as much as a half-foot. Several Pittsburgh-area school districts will open on a delay Thursday morning, according to WPXI.com.

South of Buffalo, the Interstate 90 Thruway was closed for several hours Wednesday afternoon because of multiple wrecks, WGRZ.com reported. The closure shut down 50 miles of interstate for about three hours Wednesday, the report added.

According to National Weather Service reports, Buffalo received an additional 10.7 inches of snow in a 24-hour span from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. Earlier in the week, lake-effect snow was most intense in northern New York, where snow bands off Lake Ontario produced snow totals as high as 39 inches in Lorraine.

Many accidents were reported across western New York due to the snow, but most roads were flowing smoothly. For real-time updates on road conditions, click here.
