Rare Gorilla Twins Spark Hope In Congo’s Virunga Park

The mountain gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo share 98% of their DNA with humans. Hundreds of rangers and conservationists have spent decades risking their own lives to save this subspecies, which was once almost hunted to extinction. Since January, two mothers in Virunga National Park have each given birth to twins, an event so rare, conservationists are calling it “extraordinary.”
