Millions were captivated by a total solar eclipse across the United States, many of whom made an hourslong or even dayslong trip to get into the path of totality.

Ahead of the event, parties were scheduled and eclipse glasses were an extremely hot commodity for safe viewing. It was the first total solar eclipse in the U.S. since 2017, and there won't be another one in the Lower 48 until 2044.
