Winter Returns To Southern US

March 17, 2026Updated: March 17, 2026, 5:26 pm EDTPublished: March 17, 2026, 5:26 pm EDT

It’s back to winter across the Southern U.S. as high and low temperatures drop well below average through Thursday morning. Today’s cold record highs will be in jeopardy in places like New Orleans, Montgomery, Tallahassee, Orlando and Fort Myers as temperatures rise only into the 50s and 60s. Freeze warnings are in effect for many again tonight as lows drop to 32 degrees as far south as the panhandle of Florida. Fortunately this cold snap will be short-lived as temperatures start to warm above average by the end of the week. Watch this video to see how cold it will get in your city.
