See The First-Ever Civilian Spacewalk

October 2, 2024

Tech billionaire Jared Isaacman completed the first-ever spacewalk by a civilian. SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis also reached into the void of space. The private spacewalk was part of the Polaris Dawn mission, funded in part by Isaacman. It also served as an opportunity for SpaceX to test new spacesuits that CEO Elon Musk says could be used to help humans travel to Mars. The two other Polaris Crew members, Scott “Kidd” Poteet, a former Air Force pilot, and SpaceX engineer Anna Menon, were also exposed to the vacuum of space. Polaris Dawn launched Sept. 10 from Florida, after multiple delays due to weather and other issues. The spacewalk happened about 460 miles above Earth.
