Weather Words: 'Heliophilia'

If you can't get enough sunlight, you may suffer from heliophilia. See why.

If your favorite thing about summer is spending as much time in the sun as possible, you might just have heliophilia.

The term, which means a love of sunlight or a desire to stay in the sun, comes from the Greek words helios (sun) and filos (love). And for heliophiles, the sun is a beloved thing indeed.

You'll find heliophiles spending the last days of summer at the beach or pool, even when it's gotten a little too cold or windy for most people there. You'll also find that many housecats are natural-born heliophiles that follow patches of sunlight through the day.
