You might have heard the old weather saying, “Ring around the moon, rain soon.” Or snow. A ring around the moon is caused by light refracting off ice crystals. It’s also known as a 22-degree halo because the light passing through the ice crystals is bent at a 22-degree angle. Here’s our look at whether it predicts the weather.
