Melting Glacier Mural Shows the Effects of Climate Change

Sean Yoro, also known as HULA, is an artist based out of New York. Originally fro O'ahu, Hawaii, Yoro is known for painting large-scale pieces of street art on structures such as bridges, walls and abandoned ships near water.

Yoro found a way to reflect the changing climate in his artwork by using a unique medium – Icelandic glaciers.

The artist predicts that his paintings will only last another week, as the glaciers are melting very quickly, and along with them, his murals.

"My hope is these pieces show the real danger about where we are in our fight with climate change," Yoro told weather.com. "I wanted to create something that people had an instant response to, specifically a concern. I feel we need a reminder of how crucial our actions are right now in affecting the lives of our future generation."

Yoro paddled out in the ice-cold waters on a surfboard, armed with a few cans of paint.

"It wasn't my first time in frigid weather, but definitely different when you're forced to stay outside and endure the weather," he said. "I did notice a great deal of icebergs breaking off the nearby glacier, which I know is normal for that particular area, but it did open my eyes to see how massive of a scale these icebergs are, knowing how much more melting is going on in the arctic regions."

Yoro said that he has more climate change-focused projects in the works for the future. See the slideshow above for photos of HULA's glacier art. For more information, visit his website.
