PHOTOS: One of the World's Most Active Volcanoes

In 2015, the Piton de la Fournaise volcano on Reunion Island erupted four times. Reports are conflicting on where Piton de la Fournaise falls on the list of most active volcanoes. It falls closely behind Hawaii's Kileauea, the world's most active volcano, and is often listed as the second or third most active volcano on Earth, according to different sources.

Photographer Luc Perrot got up close and personal with the volcano during the exceptionally active year of 2015. The French photographer has lived on Reunion Island since 1999, producing mostly night photography and images of the island's diverse landscape. The photographer seems to find amusement in the daring aspect of his flaming-hot subject, using titles such as "Apocalyptic" and "Reckless" for his volcano photos. He explained on his 500px page that had he not been accompanied by a volcanologist during one of the more tumultuous eruptions that he photographed, he suspects he might not have lived through the experience.

Perrot provides updates of the volcano on his Facebook, along with more spectacular photos. 2016 has yet to see any major activity from Piton de la Fournaise, but Perrot remains ready, camera in hand.
