Deadly Flooding, Tornadoes Hit South (PHOTOS)

A multi-day round of severe weather and flooding swamped parts of the South, tipping communities into a state of emergency. At least six people were killed.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards declared an emergency for the entire state and dispatched the National Guard. Roughly 3,500 homes near Red Chute Bayou in Bossier City were evacuated in what the National Weather Service in Shreveport called a historic flash flooding event for the area.

The deluge also hit parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi, and meteorologists expected the flood threat to remain for days to come. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster for 25 counties hit hardest by flooding. Along the state's border with Louisiana, the Sabine River rose to record levels in the town of Deweyville, breaking a record that stood for more than 130 years.

Earlier in the week, the system spawned an EF1 tornado that ripped apart homes in Cool, Texas. Two additional EF1 tornadoes were confirmed on March 8, one of which destroyed multiple mobile homes and injured at least two people near Tolar. Those storms eventually moved into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, leaving more damage and even forcing a ground stop at DFW International Airport.

At the top of this page is our collection of images from both sides of this storm system.
