Winter Storm Mars, the 13th named storm of the 2015-16 season, pounded the coastline of the Northeast and New England with not just snow, but also coastal flooding and damaging winds Monday morning and into Tuesday.

The snowfall canceled schools in several cities, including Boston, where schools were also closed Friday due to Winter Storm Lexi. All across the region, travel was not advised due to dangers from snowy roads, but also from the possibility of falling tree limbs and power lines as the winds picked up.

Mars is expected to dump up to a foot of snow in some areas, and blizzard conditions were achieved in several coastal Massachusetts towns. As the tide rose, areas as far south as New Jersey saw flooding from the storm system before it moved away.
