Winter Storm Selene marched eastward across the country over several days, leaving two dead in Wisconsin and dumping two feet of snow or more in the West, Rockies and High Plains.

A violent crash in Addison, Wisconsin, killed two people in a van and sent a truck driver to the hospital Thursday, according to WTMJ-TV. Fire officials say the van spun out of control while traveling on the slick Interstate 41. It crossed the median into the southbound lanes, where it collided with an 18-wheel semi.

The victims were identified as sisters from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, ages 15 and 24, according to Fox6Now.com. The truck driver was a 61-year-old man, the report added.

More than a foot of snow has been reported in parts of the High Plains and Upper Midwest. In southern Minnesota, residents were asked to avoid any unnecessary travel Wednesday and Thursday with the storm expected to make driving difficult. In Wisconsin, a state of emergency was declared.

Earlier in the week, the storm caused major travel problems Wednesday in Colorado and Wyoming, including Denver and its metro area. Hundreds of flights were canceled at Denver International Airport before it was closed Wednesday afternoon, and several major interstates were shut down in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska.

Nearly 300,000 homes and businesses lost power in what was called the largest single-day outage event for Xcel Energy in Colorado history, and countless drivers were stranded on the snow-covered roads. Colorado's National Guard resources were deployed to assist motorists in need of rescue from the onslaught of snow.
