Winter Storm Troy was named on Monday, becoming the 20th named storm of the 2015-16 season. Feet of snow have fallen on parts of the Rockies, but not before the storm started with a bang Monday in California and Nevada.

Roads were snow-covered and slick Monday morning in Reno, Nevada, leading to numerous slide-offs and at least one jackknifed tractor-trailer. More than 9 inches of snow fell in the city, and snowfall rates of an inch per hour Monday morning brought many major roadways to a crawl.

Troy also brought strong winds to Southern California, where dust from a dried lake bed was kicked up Monday afternoon along Highway 18 in Lucerne Valley, severely reducing visibilities. The dust storm triggered a 15-car pileup that left at least 28 people injured, according to local authorities.

Interstate 80 was closed for nearly the entire stretch of Wyoming on Wednesday as the snowfall intensified, and Montana officials also warned motorists to be careful if they must drive on freeways affected by the winter weather.

By the time the storm wrapped up in the West, more than two feet of snow had fallen in parts of Wyoming, and nearly three feet of snow fell in parts of Nevada.
