Amazing Secret Islands Around the World (PHOTOS)

Isolated and unspoiled, secret islands around the world can be the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of every day modern life. Featuring stunning beaches, lush green forests and clear blue waters, there are still numerous islands that await the adventurous traveler.

Comino is the perfect example of one of these overlooked islands. Accessible by ferry, this island is so tiny that it has a permanant population of just four people, according to Skyscanner, and it is car-free. There is also only one hotel on the island.  However, it is also an excellent diving destination and features stunning blue waters in its Blue Lagoon.

Located just 15-minutes from Ishigaki-jima by boat, Japan's Taketomi-jima is a beautiful little island that is worth visiting for its Ryukjyu culture. Featuring flower-decked villages filled with red kawara (tiled) roof traditional houses, coral walls and shiisa statues, this little island is a museum, preserved in part because its residents have banned some signs of modernism, according to Lonely Planet. The roads are pathed with crushed-coral, there are no chain convenience stores, and it is common to see water buffalo carriages in the villages

Be sure not to miss the largest island of the Chiloe archipelago, Isla Grande de Chiloe, which is located at the northern edge of Patagonia. This stunning island is home to colorful seaside villages full of wooden houses on stilts (called “palafitos”), shingled churches, rolling farmlands and forests. It is also home to a beautiful national park, which remains largely untouched and features miles of beaches, temperate rainforest and rolling farmland. This is also the perfect island to take a cruise to see nesting penguins on nearby islands
