Munich-based photographer Bernhard Lang captures the beautiful patterns created by beach umbrellas on Italy’s coastline in his latest aerial photo series, “Aerial Views Adria.”

Lang said he was inspired after looking out the window on passenger flights. The intricate patterns fascinated him and he wanted to try and find a way to capture images from that unique perspective.

He then started chartering helicopters and catching aerial views of coalmines, harbors, several towns and anything “that could look interesting from above.”

But, it was on a vacation to Adria, a town in Northeastern Italy, that Lang got the idea for his latest series. While he was on vacation Lang noticed the colors and arrangements of beach umbrellas each hotel set out for his guests.

Later, Lang set up a helicopter shoot to capture the patterns on the coastline from Ravenna to Rimini, Italy.

For all of his aerial shoots he prefers sunny days, as “colors look stronger in sunshine.”
