Yacht Slams into Pier in Newport Beach, Calif.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Despite heavy fog in the area, lifeguards rescued 11 people who had to abandon a yacht after it lost power and drifted toward a Southern California pier and bumped its pillars.

Orange County Sheriff's Deputy William Nelson said no one was injured in Sunday night's accident off Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, but the fog did make it difficult for rescuers to get a clear view of the boat until it came closer to the pier.

The 55-foot yacht eventually "rubbed into" the pier. Witnesses were sharing photos via social media. You can see them in our Storify collection below.
