Arm tension can ruin any swing, but if you get too relaxed, your swing can break down. Moderate pressure in the fingers solidifies your connection to the club and keeps it from slipping at the top. The secret is gripping firmly while keeping your arms soft.

Take a secure grip at address, but relax your arms. For many golfers this is an acquired feel. Waggling the club can help; so can gripping and regripping a club with your fingers, called "milking the grip."
