A 10-year-old Colorado girl became the youngest person to climb Yosemite's El Capitan earlier this month, AP reported.

Selah Schneiter, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, completed her five day climb with the help of her father, Mark Schneiter, and family friend, Mark Regier. The trio reached the summit on June 12.

El Capitan is one of the most notoriously challenging peaks to climb in the world. The Today Show explained that the 3,000 foot route taken by Schneiter is taller than the world's tallest building, and is as tall as nine Statues of Liberty.

Schneiter told the AP that reaching the top "was really overwhelming and emotional," adding that part of her was a little sad that the climb was over.

Alex Honnold, famous for climbing El Capitan sans safety ropes in 2017, sent Schneiter a video message telling her he was watching part of her climb from a nearby meadow.

The young climber, whose parents met while climbing El Capitan, has been climbing since she can remember, and has been wanting to climb the mountain for years. She prepared for the climb for nine months. Schneiter told BBC that she's already thinking about climbing the peak again.

"I just really like being away from the world for a few days, and I think that's something that climbing really offers." the 10-year old said in her interview with BBC.
