As well as being the summer solstice, Friday, June 21, is International Yoga Day. Yoga enthusiasts the world over will be showing off their skills and their love for the ancient practice.

Photos show people practicing yoga in temples, on mountains, in front of a naval aircraft carrier, and practically anywhere else conceivable.

Friday marked the fifth International Day of Yoga, which was created by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to highlight the importance of the tradition within his country and around the world. According to The Washington Post, Modi practices yoga daily and participates in a massive outdoor yoga session each year on June 21.

Though temperatures throughout India continue to soar, tens thousands of practitioners gathered for outdoor yoga. Click through the slideshow above to view the many ways people celebrated International Yoga Day.
