Our friends at the U.K. Met Office, the equivalent to our National Weather Service in the U.S., put together this fascinating infographic with all kinds of weather statistics and other fun facts about Wimbledon.

Below the graphic, we have a 'translation' of the metric terms into English (!) units.

Translation of metric terms as they appeared:

  • 25.4ºC = 77.7ºF (warmest Wimbledon Championship average temperature, 1976)
  • 4.9ºC = 40.8ºF (lowest minimum temperature, 24 June 1999)
  • 62.7 mm = 2.47 inches (wettest day, 28 June 1906)
  • 34.6ºC = 94.3ºF (hottest day, 26 June 1976)
  • 19.8ºC = 67.6ºF (coolest tournament maximum, 1890)
  • 3-4 liters = 101-135 U.S. fluid ounces (0.79-1.06 U.S. gallons) (Andy Murray in 2011 heat)
  • 69.8 mm = 2.75 inches (wettest Wimbledon on record, 1991)
  • 20ºC = 68ºF (average maximum June temperature in southeast England)
  • 30.8ºC = 87.4ºF (hottest average daily maximum, 1976)
  • 30ºC = 86ºF (heat rule)
