Stunning Images of the Changing Seasons in New York City (PHOTOS)

In New York City something is always going on, but photographer Vivienne Gucwa captures the city’s quiet moments as the seasons change.

Gucwa was inspired to start capturing the city six years ago, when she decided to quit her job and go back to school.

“Walking became my number one way to deal with stress,” she said. “It also became a way for me to experience the city like I hadn’t before. I would choose a direction and walk as far as my feet would take me.”

The walks opened her eyes to a New York City she had never experienced before. “I knew that I wanted to capture the moments and experiences on my walks that made my heart swell,” she said.

She went online and bought the cheapest point-and-shoot camera she could find and started capturing the city from her new perspective. It wasn’t until a year later that she decided to start sharing her images online.

Now her blog, “NY Through the Lens,” has over 2.5 million readers and the book based on the blog hits shelves later this month.

“This book is a series of narratives and thoughts about New York City, set to the New York City that exists in my mind,” Gucwa writes in the book’s introduction. “When I have my camera to my eye and I am thinking about the countless stories that are unfolding in front of me, I am at the core a dream catcher and moment collector.”

While Gucwa captures the everyday moments of the city, her photos also capture a dreamy element of the city.

“I am also endlessly haunted by nostalgia: more specifically a deep longing for a place that is unidentifiable but somehow familiar and indicative of what could be identified as home.”

“NY Through the Lens” is available Nov. 24, 2014.  To see more of Gucwa’s work visit her website or Facebook page.
