Threats From Ernesto Impacting US Coastal Areas

Tropical Cyclone Gaja impacted the southeastern coast of India as Category 1 equivalent cyclone on Nov. 15 with heavy rainfall and damaging winds.

Gaja made landfall near Vedaranyam, or 150 miles south of Chennai, in southern India's Tamil Nadu state, moving westward from the Bay of Bengal into the Arabian Sea.

The cyclone killed more than 10 people as it washed over the southern tip of the subcontinent.

Heavy rain caused damage to trees and agriculture in the region and damaging winds blew over walls and downed power lines.
