Mindy formed late Wednesday afternoon when Doppler radar out of the Florida Panhandle detected a well-defined circulation less than 100 miles west-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida. The tropical storm then made landfall with 45 mph winds a few hours later at 8:15 p.m. CDT on St. Vincent Island, Florida, or just west-southwest of Apalachicola.

Winds gusted to 55 mph on St. George Island, Florida, when Mindy made landfall Wednesday evening. Stronger wind gusts from Mindy downed several trees and powerlines in the Tallahassee area overnight.

Mindy swept off the Southeast Coast by Thursday afternoon and weakened into a tropical depression. Rain fell from the coastal Carolinas to northeast Florida as the system moved away and a cold front pushed through the region.
