Hurricane Tammy will continue to bring flooding rainfall to parts of the Leeward Islands through Sunday night. Rip currents and strong surf will be possible for the next few days as Tammy continues to move away from the islands.

Here's where Tammy is located right now and where it's headed: Tammy's center is north of Anguilla and Antigua and Barbuda, moving northwest away from the Leeward Islands.

The storm strengthened into a hurricane on Friday morning in the tropical Atlantic. This is an unusual location for a hurricane to form this late in the year, according to Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a tropical scientist at Colorado State University.

The route northward away from the Caribbean has become less certain. Tammy was initially expected to be captured by a cold front by the middle of the week, but computer guidance is now suggesting that the storm may drift around between Puerto Rico and Bermuda for some time.

It could fluctuate in strength over the next few days. Tammy will move over an area of warm sea surface temperatures and low shear, which could encourage additional strengthening. However, it will encounter an area of stronger shear before reaching Bermuda. This will help to weaken the storm.

Just two regular storm names remain for the 2023 hurricane season: Vince and Whitney are the next two names for any additional storms that form in the Atlantic this season.

If a third name is needed, then a supplemental list will be used. The first name on that supplemental list is Adria.
