Tropical Storm Colin is the ninth tropical storm to make landfall in Florida dating back to the start of the 2006 hurricane season.

This fact, however, is often overshadowed by the headlines of Florida's historic hurricane drought, which now spans more than a decade. A hurricane has not made landfall in the state since Wilma did so on Oct. 24, 2005.

In six of the past 10 years (2006-2015) Florida has seen at least one tropical storm make landfall. Two of those years - 2006 and 2012 - saw two tropical storm landfalls.

Colin is the first named storm to make landfall in Florida since Andrea did so on June 6, 2013, or exactly three years ago. Andrea also made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region where Colin moved inland.

Though hurricanes dominate the headlines, tropical storms can also cause significant impacts. Many times this is related to either rainfall flooding or tornadoes that the storms can produce. Several of Florida's tropical storms in the past 10 years have been impactful in both those ways.

In June 2012, Tropical Storm Debby and Tropical Storm Beryl brought heavy rainfall and caused significant flooding in northern Florida. Debby also spawned 18 tornadoes. The damage cost from Debby alone was estimated to be $250 million, according to the National Hurricane Center report.

Several years earlier in 2008, Tropical Storm Fay moved very slowly across Florida and caused significant flooding in parts of the state. Fay flooded 19,000 homes and caused an estimated $560 million in damage

Other storms have not been as eventful. Claudette (2009) and Bonnie (2010) brought only minimal impacts to the state.
