Hurricane Andres, First of 2015 Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season, Fizzles to a Remnant Low; Final Advisory Issued (RECAP)

  • Andres, the Eastern Pacific basin's first hurricane of 2015, degenerated into a remnant low just under 1000 miles west of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The National Hurricane Center issued its final advisory for Andres on Thursday, June 4.
  • Andres became the season's first major hurricane Sunday afternoon, May 31, and strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane Sunday evening. Maximum sustained winds peaked at 145 mph on Monday, June 1.
  • Andres was the fifth major Eastern Pacific hurricane on record in the month of May since reliable records began in 1970.
