UPDATE: The Storm Prediction Center has increased the threat to a high risk for areas in the Deep South on Saturday, but there will likely be tornadoes and extreme wind damage beginning on Friday. Numerous tornadoes, some may be very strong, could move through parts of the Plains and South in cities like Des Moines, Iowa, St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. Wind is also a huge concern, as gusts could reach up to 100 mph. That is as strong as a category two hurricane, so make sure any items outside are taken in or locked down. Power outages are likely as these winds will bring down trees and power lines. Large hail the size of baseballs is also possible, so park in a garage if you can. By Saturday a tornado outbreak is possible in the Deep South. Cities like New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile, Alabama and even Atlanta, Georgia are under threat. Be aware, there could be multiple rounds of storms and some of the strongest may come in the overnight hours, so have a way to get warnings and know where you will take shelter. Here are the details
