  • 2:40 p.m. CDT: A tornado warning was issued that included Moore, Okla.
  • 2:52 p.m.: Radar indicates rotation may be reaching the ground near Moore
  • 2:56 p.m.: First reports of a tornado in progress
  • 3:01 p.m.: Tornado Emergency issued for Moore
  • 3:36 p.m.: Tornado "ropes out" and dissipates
  • 3:43 p.m.: First images of destruction surface on The Weather Channel
  • 6:07 p.m.: Storm chasers Jim Cantore, Mike Bettes and the Tornado Hunt team first arrive in the damaged areas; comparisons immediately drawn to Joplin, Mo. tornado in 2011
  • 7:16 p.m.: Death toll announced at 37 by Associated Press, via Twitter

Tuesday

  • 6:47 a.m.: KFOR-TV reports more than 100 people rescued from rubble overnight; later confirmed by Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management
  • 8:38 a.m.: Death toll revised down to 24, per AP

  • Preliminary EF4 or higher damage
  • May 3, 1999 tornado killed 11 in Cleveland County (Moore)
