Winter Storm Nemo laid down a swath of snow from the Upper Midwest to Maine.

Snow totals measured in feet are common in New England. Five states had locations that recorded 30" or more from Nemo (Conn., N.H., Mass., Maine, N.Y.). Hamden, Conn. came in with the top total of 40"!

  • Portland, Maine:  All-time record snowstorm (31.9");  Old record from Jan. 17-18, 1979 (27.1")
  • Hartford, Conn.: (Bradley Field):  Second-heaviest snowfall on record (22.3)"; record is from Jan. 12, 2011 (24").
  • Worcester, Mass.:  Third heaviest snowstorm all-time (28.7"); Record is 33" from "April Fools' 1997".
  • Concord, N.H.:  Second heaviest snowstorm all-time (24").
  • Boston (Logan Airport):  Fifth heaviest snowstorm on record (24.9").

Winter Storm Nemo has not only deposited feet of snow in some areas, but has whipped that snow into drifts that have stranded motorists from Long Island to New England.  

Here is a rundown of peak wind gusts over 60 mph by state during Winter Storm Nemo:

  • Massachusetts:  Near Cuttyhunk (83 mph)
  • Connecticut:  Westport (82 mph; elevation 139')
  • New Hampshire:  Mt. Washington (81 mph; elevation 6262')
  • New York:  Near Plum Island (75 mph)
  • Maine:  Bangor International Airport (75 mph)
  • Rhode Island:  Jamestown (68 mph)

Also, here is a list of other notable peak wind gusts:

  • Hyannis, Mass.:  77 mph
  • Boston (Logan Airport):  76 mph
  • Buzzard's Bay, Mass.:  74 mph
  • Scituate, Mass.:  68 mph
  • Plymouth, Mass:  63 mph

There were also reports of trees and wires down from Long Island to New England.  Mid-morning Saturday, just over 664,000 customers were without power, mainly in Massachusetts.  One of the outages was at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, Mass.  Authorities said there was no threat to public safety.

Coastal Flooding Reports

Winter Storm Nemo's powerhouse winds lead to significant coastal flooding from New England to parts of the Mid-Atlantic Seaboard.  

Hardest hit was coastal Massachusetts both the evening of Feburary 8th and the morning of February 9th, 2013.

Here's a rundown of some of the storm reports:

  • Sandwich, Mass.:  Homes flooded. Access stairs to beach are gone.
  • Winthrop, Mass.:  Winthrop Shore Dr. flooded, Point Shirley St. flooded with 2 feet of water.
  • Revere, Mass.:  Pines Rd. flooded.
  • Hull, Mass.:  George Washington Blvd., Water St. flooded; voluntary evacuations.
  • Scituate, Mass.:  Seawall partially breached on Hawthorne St., Newport street flooded.
  • Marshfield, Mass.: Cars stuck in flood waters on Plymouth Ave.
  • Nantucket, Mass.: Main St. flooded up to Club Car Restaurant. Water up as far as Nantucket Hotel on Easton St.
  • Cohasset, Mass.: Water 1 to 2 feet deep came up to a couple of houses on Beach St.
  • York, Maine:  Long Sands Rd. flooded.

Flooding was also reported during the Feb. 8th morning high tide along the Jersey shore, as noted by iWitnessWeather contributor Jake_mcnellis520 at Long Beach Island, N.J.
