An early season snowstorm will finish up in the Great Lakes on Halloween after bringing snow to parts of the Plains, Midwest and Rockies earlier in the week.

The Weather Channel has named this system Winter Storm Bessie.

With just under 3 inches of snow, this is the snowiest Halloween on record in Milwaukee.

Snowfall amounts have generally been modest in most areas of the upper Midwest, though a few locations in southern Wisconsin and eastern Iowa reported 6 to 8 inches through Thursday afternoon.

Denver picked up 7.7 inches of snow at Denver International Airport as this snowstorm dropped southward through the Rockies Tuesday into Wednesday.

An initial burst of heavier snow moved through the Chicago metro area early Wednesday morning. Western suburbs of the city received 1 to 3 inches of slushy accumulation.
