A winter storm spread snow and ice from parts of the Plains into the Midwest and Northeast, and snarled travel in a number of states.

This system was named Winter Storm Nathaniel by The Weather Channel.

The heaviest snow fell in parts of Nebraska and Iowa where over a foot of snow.

Lincoln, Nebraska, reported 14.5 inches of snow on Jan. 25, alone, its second heaviest calendar-day snow on record.

Omaha, Nebraska, reported 11.9 inches of snow on Jan. 25, making it the snowiest day there since 1975.

Heavy snow moved into Des Moines, Iowa, during the afternoon drive on Jan. 25, reducing visibility. The Iowa capital city picked up 12.6 inches of snow.

Radar-estimated snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour at times, in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

At least 8 inches of snow was reported in parts of southern Wisconsin, including the Madison and Milwaukee metros, and in a few parts of Chicagoland.

Some totals in central and upstate New York topped 6 inches including areas just north of the Capital District westward along the Mohawk Valley and the southern Adirondacks.

Three to four-inch totals were common around the Boston metro.

Freezing rain was reported in parts of Indiana and southwest Ohio, including the Indianapolis and Cincinnati metro areas Monday. Numerous slideoffs off icy roads were reported near Worthington, Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to a half-inch of ice was reported in parts of Virginia and Pennsylvania on the morning of Jan. 26.

Iowa: 14 inches in Adair, Clarinda, Elkhart, Panama and Silver City

Illinois: 8.2 inches in Buffalo Grove and 6 inches in Chicago; 0.25 inches of ice near Watseka

Indiana: 0.2 inches of ice (estimated) in Ligonier

Kansas: 12 inches near Webber

Kentucky: 0.2 inches of ice in Warnock

Maryland: 0.25 inches of ice near Deer Park

Massachusetts: 6.2 inches in Savoy and 5.3 inches in Worcester

Michigan: 6 inches near Big Rapids and Mt. Pleasant

Missouri: 12 inches (estimated) near Rockport

Nebraska: 15.8 inches near Stromsburg and 12.5 inches in Omaha

New York: 10.8 inches in Wells

Ohio: 0.1 inches of ice in Ottawa

Pennsylvania: 0.5 inches of ice near Grapeville

Virginia: 0.5 inches of ice in Wintergreen

West Virginia: 0.25 inches of ice near Bloomery

Wisconsin: 9.4 inches in Horicon
