Winter Storm Pluto Was the Third Snowstorm in a Week to Hammer New England (RECAP)

Play

Winter Storm Pluto was New England's third snowstorm in about a week's time Feb. 15-16, piling onto the feet of snow that had already fallen since Feb. 9.

A southward dip in the jet stream, combined with a disturbance from the Southeast, triggered the development and intensification of low pressure off the New England coast.

While this intensification was too late to produce a major, widespread snowstorm across the entire Northeast, northern New England didn't get off the hook for more heavy snow.

Snow Reports

Snow showers and localized squalls affected areas from western Pennsylvania into upstate New York and portions of Vermont. Visibility was significantly reduced in the heaviest squalls, due to falling snow as well as blowing and drifting snow.
